PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES

[BACK TO: ABOUT ETHM]

YOUTH WELLNESS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

ETHM’s Youth Wellness Leadership Institute addresses the health crisis among youth and families by offering youth-led nutritional and physically active programming that provides: health and wellness policy advocacy training, wellness ambassador training and community engagement development.

As stakeholders in the Port Towns Community Health Partnership, we embrace LIVING WELL IN THE PORT TOWNS

in many ways:

Our Wellness Ambassadors, ages 10-17, are trained to teach their peers and others. They also advocate for policies that promote Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) to impact the health of the Port Towns and beyond.

Our PTYC has embarked upon a health and wellness initiative— Diabetes and Obesity Awareness and Prevention Campaign.

ETHM has broadened our career development model to integrate health and wellness curricula throughout all programs.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT & EMPOWERMENT INSTITUTE

ETHM’s Youth Development and Empowerment Institute (YDEI) in partnership with Bladensburg High School provides students with ready access to services that enhance their academic competence through the following programs:

PATHWAYS TO CAREER SUCCESS

A multi-faceted career development program that prepares Bladensburg High School students for the workforce and college through a variety of services that include: career planning information, literacy enhancement, job readiness training, jobs, internships and mentoring.

CHARACTER EDUCATION & PUBLIC SAFETY

ETHM’s in-school and community-based Conflict Resolution Centers provide youth and their parents/guardians with conflict resolution and anger management life skills. All ETHM’s public safety programs contribute to a decrease in student truancy, suspensions, dropout rates, gang violence and crime, and also help to increase school graduation rates.

Our Young Ladies & Young Men of Distinction program provides students and their parents with career protocol and social etiquette skills.

COMMUNITY SERVICE & ENVIRONMENTAL OUTREACH

PTYC members and their parents engage in a range of community service activities such as our partnership with the Port Town of Cottage City to help them establish the Cottage City Community Garden. Students and their families enjoy seeding, weeding, mulching and harvesting delicious produce. This HEAL project encourages other youth and town residents to be active while interacting with their neighbors and the town’s officials.

Project 450 Community Clean Up, is an award winning environmental campaign established by the PTYC. This quarterly activity offers students, parents and community residents the opportunity to stop trash and debris from clogging Port Towns storm drains and flowing into the Anacostia River.
